The Importance of Routine Eye Care for Children

Signs of Vision Problems
There are several signs to look for in your child that indicates that he or she has vision issues. If your child covers one eye, holds books close to the face, or complains of headaches regularly, it’s time to schedule an eye exam. These vision problems can make it difficult for your child to learn, and make cause lower grades. Poor vision can also be frustrating, and often leads to behavioral problems.
Early Detection Is Important
An eye exam helps to discover irregularities with your child’s eyes. Our eye doctor recommends the first pediatric eye exam at age 3, before kids start school. At this visit, we will check visual acuity, alignment, movement, and depth perception. This gives us the chance to correct any vision problems, so your child can learn easier. Glasses may be recommended for children who have significant vision issues. At subsequent pediatric eye exams, we can track progress to see if our recommended treatment is working well for your child.
