Your flexible spending account contains funds that are taken before your paycheck is taxed. The funds in the FSA can only be used for specific expenses, so it is imperative that you understand what you pay for and for whom you can pay. Some of the eligible expenses for your FSA include many eye care costs. What Eye Care Costs Can Be Covered With The FSA?
You can pay for many expenses that aren’t covered by your insurance. This includes things like eye exams with one of our eye doctors, co-pays, deductibles, and even some surgical procedures. For example, you can cover medical costs for LASIK eye surgery using a flex spending account.
Another considerable expense that can be covered by your FSA is vision correction using eyeglasses and contact lenses. You can pay for prescription sunglasses and regular prescription glasses. You can also pay for prescription contact lenses and the items you need to care for them. Even reading glasses are covered, whether the glasses are prescription or non-prescription.
There are limitations to how long you have to use the funds in your FSA. They must typically be used by the end of the year; however, some employers can provide employees with an additional two months to use the funds in the account. Any funds that aren’t used by the end of the period are lost, so it is a good idea to ensure that you get the eye care that you need before you lose those funds.
